UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Susan D. Page of the United States as his special adviser on rule of law, his press office said on Friday.

Mr António Guterres

Page will support the implementation of recommendations from the review of the Global Focal Point on the rule of law in post-conflict and other crisis situations.

Established in 2012, the Global Focal Point arrangements for police, justice and correction areas is to ensure a coordinated UN response to country-level requests for support in the rule of law sector.

Page has previously served as the secretary-general’s special representative in Haiti and deputy special representative for the rule of law in the UN Stabilisation Mission in Haiti.

She has also had a distinguished career in the State Department of the United States.

Page was the first U.S. ambassador to South Sudan, after which she served as acting ambassador to the AU and UN Economic Commission for Africa.
