The gesture, according to the association’s National President, Dr. Kemi Emina, was intended to cushion the effects of the shortage of funds by the Federal Government to the institution which was established in 1948.

Speaking with newsmen, in Ibadan yesterday, as part of the preparation for the launching of the hall and eventual hand-over to the management of the institution which coincides with the  60th anniversary of the alumni association, Dr. Emina said the association has been of tremendous help to the institution.  Lamenting that the government was stifling the institution of funds, he said: “despite the fact that standard of education is terribly low, UI has been able to maintain its enviable standard.”

He  added that graduates of UI, who are doing excellently in their chosen fields, should not forget their alma mater.

Speaking on the activities lined up for the anniversary,  Emina said the commissioning would be done by the Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State and thereafter, deliver the 5th National Public Service lecture and the 60th anniversary lecture.

In addition, Emina said, to make the 60th celebration commemorative, all past lectures series delivered in the last 30 years, including that of the late Attorney General, Chief Bola Ige would also be presented.

The forward to the book, according to the National President, was written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo while Dr.  Tunji Olaopa would review the book.

The association, he stated, would  honour  the Anglican Primate, Dr. Nicholas Okoh, JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede; MD/CEO Rainoil, Mr. Gabriel Ogbechie, among others.
