LAGOS—WALKING through the Acts of the Apostle Church auditorium barely four days after the religious center was chartered, Ms. Orowole Iwalokun, gazed at the wreckage facilities within the premises and could not imagine she would not be able to attend Sunday services again with his brother and cousin.

As usual, Iwalokun was already nursing the hope that her brother, Kolawole, would foot her father’s medical bill after sustaining severe injury recently.

But that would not happen as the policemen attached to Lagos State Taskforce on Land grabbing, allegedly, killed him and their cousin, Seyi Akintimehin, last Thursday, April 10, while trying to pull down the community church building and 15 other structures.

It was learned that the 40-year-old was raised in Ori-Oke Community in Makoko axis, Lagos State with his cousin and brother but their death in the community where they were born is forcing Orowole and others relatives to seek public assistance on justice

Vanguard gathered that though residents, during the exercise, claimed the land accommodating the structures was under litigation, the law enforcement officers and government officials violated the existing order, demolishing some sections of the structures within the premises and set their appliances and a tricycle ablaze.

While narrating the last moment with her brother, Orowole, who still wept profusely, lamented that she was waiting for him to send money for their father’s medical bill before news of his death filtered in.

Hear her: “My late brother lives in Ajah axis. I called him on that fateful day that my father sustained a fatal injury and couldn’t engage in his normal activities. And how do we raise money to ensure his upkeep? And in his usual style, he assured me that he will visit and provide the money needed. While waiting for him, I never knew he had arrived when I heard gunshot within the premises and everyone started running. I cannot say this was how we took my father away from the house because the law enforcement officers were shooting indiscriminately.

“A few minutes later, I was informed that my brother had sustained gunshot wound on his hand and later, the person came back to inform me that my brother couldn’t survive the injury.

“I was informed that immediately the policemen started shooting sporadically, he and other residents ran for safety but during the process, he sustained gunshot wound and later died.”“If the father gets wind of his death, we don’t know what will happen.  That is why we have not told him. The father asked why Kolawole has not come to visit him. All we could tell him was that he travelled.”
