Ex-Rep lauds zoning of PDP guber ticket to Plateau South

By Marie-Therese Nanlong

Jos—Reactions have continued to trail the recent decision by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Plateau State to zone the gubernatorial seat to Plateau Senatorial Zone where the incumbent governor, Simon Lalong, of All Progressives Congress, APC, hails from.

It will be recalled that the refusal of the PDP-led administration of former Governor Jonah Jang to allow the party bring a candidate from the zone allegedly caused the party the governorship election.

The party, however, during the State Executive Committee, SEC, meeting last week at the state secretariat in Jos resolved, among other things, to zone the seat to the zone.

Publicity Secretary of the party, John Akans, said: “The meeting also approved the zoning of the party’s governorship position to the southern zone for the purposes of the 2019 general elections.”

Reacting to the decision, a former member representing Jos South/Jos East in the 6th and 7th Assembly, Mr. Bitrus Kaze, said: “I join other PDP faithful in commending the Hon D.T Sango-led State Executive Council for its sound decision to zone the 2019-2023 governorship ticket to Plateau South.

“The policy of zoning in the PDP is foundational and the decision of the Plateau SEC to zone the 2019 governorship to Plateau South is consistent with the party constitution which requires that such a decision shall be enforced by the appropriate executive committee at all levels.
