Niger State Independent Electoral Commission on Saturday conducted bye elections into councillorship positions in three local government areas of  the state.

Alhaji Habib Abdullahi, Secretary of the commission, disclosed this in an interview with  newsmen   in Wushishi.

He expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the exercise at Barwa ward of Wushishi local government area.

” So far so good I have visited seven polling units and the exercise is going on without any hindrance,” he said.

He said that commission is also conducting bye election in Izom ward of Gurara Local Government and Issa ward in Katcha Local Government areas.

He said the death of the Local government chairmen of Katcha and Gurara, who were automatically replaced by their deputies, hence necessitated the commission to conduct the bye election to filled in the vacant councillorship positions.

” We have made available all the basic materials needed to ensure smooth conduct of the exercise, ” he said.

Alhaji Bashir Maishanu, Chairman of Wushishi Local Government commended the commission for providing basic materials for the election.

” We have provide adequate security personnel to deal decisively with any person or group of people found tempering with the peaceful nature our area was known for,” he said.
