Convicted sisters appeal Edo magistrate court’s judgment

BENIN—TWO sisters, Judith and Juliet Okosun, graduates of  Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, who were convicted by a Magistrate’s court for illegal detention and indecent assault of a lecturer, Dr. Peter Otubu, have appealed  the judgment before an Edo State High Court sitting in Ekpoma.

In the appeal, their counsel,  Olayiwola Afolabi, is contending that the learned trial Magistrate erred in law when she held that Juliet Okosun unlawfully detained one  Dr Peter Otubu, adding that the magistrate failed to consider the defence of the appellate on what led to the detention.

In the case of the other appellate, Juldith Okosun, the counsel is contending that the trial Magistrate erred in law when she held that the prosecution proved the offence of indecent assault against the appellant and convicted her for indecent assault.

On the particular of error on this ground, Olayiwola is contending that the prosecution did not prove the ingredients of indecent assault, adding that the court still convicted her of the offence.

The appellant’s counsel however, said that further grounds of appeal will be filed on the receipt of record of proceedings from the court.
