KANO – Kano political temperament was raised to a boiling point Monday, following move by aggrieved members of the Kano state house of Assembly move to remove the Speaker, Abdullahi Yusuf Ata for what they described “gross incompetence ”
The development followed the outcome of the just concluded All Progressive Congress ward and local government election that saw them loosing grip of their constituency.
Multiple sources in the House of Assembly confided in Vanguard that already “no fewer than 21 members out 40 have signed the impeachment notice to remove all the principal officers.
The leadership of the Assembly on what appeared a preemptive move has adjourned the sitting for 6 weeks . In a terse statement by the Public Relations officer to the Assembly, Ali Bala said that the House would resume plenary in 6 weeks time.
The tension generated by the subterranean move by the aggrieved lawmakers has compelled authority in the state to beef up security within and around the Assembly to forestall breakdown of law and order.
I don’t lose sleep over their move –Speaker.
In his reaction to development, the embattled Speaker in a telephone conversation with Vanguard declared that he does not lose sleep over the subterranean move to impeach him by aggrieved members.
He said that “I’m a Muslim, I know for sure everything created by Allah has its time and time frame, if Allah so will, let it be , I don’t have to loose sleep over what it’s beyond me”
The speaker noted that ” you need 27 members to remove the Speaker, but from information available to us those behind this latest move are simply in the minority”
Ata who exonerated himself of blame from the fall out of APC Congress hiccups, noted that the leadership should not be liable for political misfortune of members.
Speaking further the embattled Speaker stressed “I have my constituency just like like every other members, and how do you hold the leadership liable for what happened in members constituency ”
Commenting on why he adjourned sitting, Yusuf Ata said “it has been our tradition to adjourned sitting two weeks to commencement of Ramadan, and it was only this time around that we got too close before adjournment, and the records are there for you to see “
