UYO—FOR positively impacting the lives of his constituents, the member representing Abak Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Emmanuel Ekon, has been recognised with an award of honour.
Ekon, whose life-touching projects and human capital development spread across the three local government areas of Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika, got the merit award at a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation, AKNC), publishers of the state-owned Pioneer Newspaper.
Presenting the award at a ceremony held at the Emerald Event Centre, Uyo, the state capital, the management of the corporation noted that Ekon was listed among the awardees “for three years of human capital development and effective representation.”
The lawmaker, who has reportedly empowered over 2,000 constituents in scholarships, jobs, skills and vocational training in the oil and gas industry, hailed the organisers and vowed to do more in the coming years.
Ekon, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Local Contents said: “I am deeply humbled by this recognition and I am strongly motivated to do more for my people.”
“My mission to the National Assembly was principally to make life easy for my people and by the grace of God, I have to the best of my capacity, lived up to that expectation.
“My plan is to touch every one of my constituents positively and my advice to the youths is to shun cultism, militancy, kidnappings and violent crimes because development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace.”
Some beneficiaries who graced the event, acknowledged that the lawmaker “has been able to empower over 600 constituents to acquire technical and vocational skills in the oil and gas sector.”
On the security situation in parts of his constituency, Ekon appealed to the restive youths to comply with the Federal Government’s directive to lay down their arms and embrace the amnesty programme.
He appealed to those who have not yet benefitted from his empowerment scheme, to maintain peace, assuring that they would be considered in due course.
Ekon also commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for working to address his pre-election promises to the people and solicited support and cooperation for the policies and programmes of the administration to blossom.
