Nigerian taekwondo legend, Emmanuel Oghenejobo Peters said yesterday more taekwondo talents talents will be discovered through Agoma Open Championship, as the 17th edition of the tournament came to a close yesterday at the Table Tennis Hall of the National Stadium Lagos.

The Championship, which has produced the likes of Ckika Chukwumerije according to Peters, has  been more than just a tournament, but a get together of the taekwondo family annual event as talents are  being discovered and exposed. Peters won silver at the 1992 Olympics where taekwondo was first introduced as an Olympic sport.  “My main aim of organising this tournament for 17 years running now is to discover more talents and keep the sport busy in the country.  “I am also giving back to the sport that made me who I am today.

“I spend so much putting the tournament together. But seeing these kids showing off their skills, gives  me tremendous joy and satisfaction and we will continue to do it, even as we are getting zero support from the sports body in Nigeria.”

Over 20 States and clubs including Niger Republic with a delegation of eight athletes participated in the tournament.
