A 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border on Wednesday, even shaking the Afghan capital Kabul, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.

The earthquake struck around 3:30 pm (1100 GMT) and was felt in northern and central parts of Afghanistan including Kabul, Tajikistan, Pakistan and parts of India, EMSC said.

The epicentre was some 31 kilometres north of Eshkashim district in northern Badakshan province.

People in Kabul got out of their houses and children’s screams could be heard inside apartment buildings.

This is after a moderate 5.5-earthquake also hit neighbouring Pakistan’s North-West Frontier province on Wednesday morning, a tremor also felt in Kabul.
