Sports teaches us lessons of life – Proprietor

PROPRIETOR, Prince Heirs’ College, Mushin, Lagos, Pastor Jacob Oku-Pevi, has said that apart from the benefit of showcasing students’ athletic talents during sports, inter-house sports competition also serves as a means to teach individuals some lessons of life.

Speaking during the school’s third inter-house sports competition held at Nitel Satellite Sports Ground, Oku-Pevi said: “It is not just about the sports, but also about learning the lessons of life induced by this event.”

According to him, just as in sports, life is about willingness, preparedness, and readiness to compete for the dream you so desire in life. “You must be willing to run the race of life diligently as one that runs for a prize, hence the need and call to commitment, discipline, readiness and determination to succeed in life’s contest,” he said.

Oku-Pevi who explained that life’s race needs to be completed, noted that parents, friends, colleagues and above all, your Creator are trusting you for great accomplishment.

While talking about the importance of sports, he pointed out that inter-house sports create healthy rivalry, loyalty,unity and team spirit among participants. He said: “Despite the fact that inter-house sports tournaments focus on showcasing students’ athletic talents among other virtues, it can also be a time of fun and laughter which is very beneficiary to human psychology and general state of health, as it relieves stress.”

However, the results of the inter-house sports revealed that Green House had 19 gold, 16 silver, and 12 bronze medals. Blue House had 17 gold, 11 silver and 14 bronze medals. Red House had 8 gold, 17 silver and 8 bronze medals, while Yellow House had 8 gold, 8 silver and 18 bronze medals.

On the whole, Green House came first with 47 points; Blue House came second with 42 points, Yellow House came third scoring 34 points while Red House took fourth position with 33 points.
