Police recover 107 guns in Anambra

AWKA—ANAMBRA State police command has recovered 107 guns   and other types of ammunition from people said not to be qualified to possess such guns.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umar, who displayed the items at the police headquarters in Awka, Thursday said it was in line with the recent directive of the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris that all illegal arms circulating in the country must be recovered.

The guns recovered was made up of 59 pump action, 46 locally made pistols, one AKA 47 and one browning pistol. There were also many cartridges and other types of ammunition.

Some of the guns, the CP said,were voluntarily surrendered by their owners in obedience to the police directive.

According to the CP, they were among arms that could not be licensed without the approval of the Commander In Chief of the Armed forces.

The CP warned that no member of any vigilante group should bear arms and urged members of the public to report to the command anyone found with such arms and ammunition.
