OSOGBO — THE Osun State government has threatened to prosecute some Federal Government parastatals, telecommunications companies and construction firms accused of owing the state government well over N12.5 billion as un-remitted taxes.
Briefing newsmen in Osogbo, Special Adviser on Tax Matters to Osun State governor, Mr. Gbenga Akano, said the government has decided to prosecute in seven days if the affected organisations fail to regularise their taxes.
His words: “Several meetings have been held with affected organisations, but it has been a continuous imperviousness and indebtedness. We are left with no option than to openly mention some tax defaulters who failed to perform their civic responsibilities.
“We are serious about getting every kobo owed Osun State. The government is doing its best to meet the yawning of the people. We need money to do more. We are not asking for extra. But what is legitimately due to us in taxes must be given to us.”
According to him, the defaulters include; NTA lle-Ife, N6, 734,886, Globacom Nigeria Ltd, N7,600,595, O.A.U, N1,844,770, Sammya Nigeria Ltd, N5,002,567, Wetland Construction Nigeria limited, N 8,686,336, 9Mobile, N882,458,475.
