The saying that a prophet has no respect in his hometown was on Easter Sunday proved wrong in Ogbaga, Aidogodo-Okpoga Local Government Area of Benue State as hundreds of indigenes of the community gathered to celebrate their great son and former Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), Yaba, Lagos, Professor Innocent Ujah, mni.
The renowned Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecological Surgeon was celebrated by his kinsmen for his successful tenure at the institute and many other great contributions to the community.
The Thanksgiving Service took place at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Aidogodo-Okpoga and was attended by who’s who in the community including family members and friends of the erudite Professor from across the country among whom were Prof. Uwoicho Akpa, University of Jos; Dr. Ameh Idoko, MD/CEO of Madonna Hospital, Makurdi; Chief Ronald Ikang, CEO of Salae Petroleum; Dr. Joe Mary Idoko; Dr. Otobo Ujah, First son of the celebrant; Dr. John Akpochi and Comrade Ikpa Abel.
The man who championed the fight against the dreaded Ebola virus outbreak in Lagos was all grateful to God for his guidance and favour over his successful national assignment at NIMR.
Meanwhile, the officiating priest, Very Rev. Father Ojaje Idoko who was assisted by the priest-in-charge of Okpoga parish, Rev. Father Samuel Odigbo admonished the congregation to work hard to become successful just like Prof. Ujah who has defied all odds to write his name in gold despite coming from such a very small community.
Some of the beneficiaries of Prof. Ujah’s scholarship scheme who graced the occasion testified of his selflessness.
