ABUJA—THE NigerianArmy has extended its ongoing operation in Taraba State, following the crisis between herdsmen and natives in the state.
The Army said the operation, code-named Exercise Ayem Akpatuma which was launched on February 20 in some states including Taraba, has been extended for two months in Taraba State to further consolidate on the gains achieved so far.
Besides, the Army said in a statement by its spokesman, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, that the decision to extend the operation followed calls by well-meaning Nigerians.
The Army said the extension will facilitate its effort of ridding the affected areas of militants and other criminal elements, calling on the “public, particularly residents of Taraba, to cooperate with the troops by giving useful and timely information to enable them carry out their constitutional duties effectively.”
