Women quantity surveyors seek empowerment for women in construction

Women Association of Quantity Surveyors of Nigeria, WAQSN, a sub-group of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, NIQS,  which recently celebrated International Women’s Day, has called for the development of built environment professionals in the country with the pace of digital construction economy. The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day was Uncharted Territory of Growth for Professionals in a Digital Construction Economy.

In her speech, the chairperson of WAQSN, Aderonke Oyelami, said  the association carefully selected this day to celebrate IWD 2018, and to identify with IWD 2018 global theme of Press for Progress, and to underscore the importance of this global theme by aligning with uncharted territory of growth for professionals in digital construction economy.

According to her, over the years, women in the construction industry have  had to face many constraints in balancing paid work and family responsibilities, pointing out that globally, today’s professional women, despite all odds, present great potential and are on the way to improving their livelihood and well-being.
