An Igbo socio-cultural group, Igbo Bu Igbo, has congratulated the Deputy Senate President, Professor Ike Ekweremadu, on his well deserved appointment as a Full Visiting Professor and Senior Mentoring Scholar of E-Governance and Strategic Government Studies.
In a statement signed by Dr. Law-Mefor Anueyiagu and Jude Ndukwe, Interim Secretary and Interim Publicity Secretary respectively, the group commended the Deputy Senate President for being the first Senator among the senate leadership to attain the highest academic qualification in the entire history of Nigeria.
“We are very proud that this has further shown the true Igbo spirit of excellence which has always put the Igbo nation at the summit of global map of politics/leadership, economy, science, arts, commerce and other human endeavours one can think of. In spite of this, the Igbo man has always served with profound humility as seen in the Deputy Senate President”.
The statement also said that the appointment attests to what Ndigbo have always known about the DSP as reiterated by the Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA, that Professor Ekweremadu is ‘a motivation for the Nigerian youths, both at home and in diaspora’.
The group also commended the newly appointed professor as a man who has debunked the false notion in some quarters that the Igbo cannot be trusted with positions of leadership at the highest level by discharging his duties with forthrightness and uncommon loyalty.
“As Deputy Senate President from a minority party in the Red Chamber, deputizing for a Senate President from a majority party, Professor Ike Ekweremadu has exhibited the ideal spirit of trust, loyalty, sacrifice and fidelity to the common cause as against parochial interests.
“A man of many firsts, Ekweremadu is the first deputy senate president from a minority party in the senate in our modern political history; he is the first senator to become a professor while serving as deputy senate president; the first to serve three terms as DSP, and the only Nigerian that has served as the Speaker of the ECOWAS parliament. Indeed, Ndigbo are proud of our great pacesetter and leader.
“We have no doubt in our minds that with this appointment, Ekweremadu’s well documented service to humanity particularly through his Ikeoha Foundation which has supported over 15,000 people through bursary awards and scholarships for university education, and basic education for women and youths through the Foundation’s 34 Adult Literacy Centres, would be expanded to further serve mankind.
“While we pledge our continued support, we once again congratulate Professor Ike Ekweremadu, Ikeoha, Deputy President, Senate of the Federal Republic”, the statement concluded
