ABAKALIKI—GOVERNOR David Umahi of Ebonyi State yesterday, ordered immediate demolition of houses within the Ebonyi State University for which compensations had been fully paid by the state government.
Visibly angry Governor Umahi while addressing the residents of Ophoke Nsulekpa during the demolition expressed dismay that despite the fact that compensation had been fully paid by the State government for the land for the purpose of building the University, some residents have refused to vacate the university community.
He said some residents of the area despite collecting compensation from the administration of the former Sam Egwu refused to vacate the land, prompting his administration to write several letters to the occupants without success.
The Governor disclosed that he had given the people of the area N10 million early last year to enable them convey their property and vacate the university community but they still stayed back.
