ABUJA—FOLLOWING the alleged sack of four substantive directors of the National Theatre and National Troupe without following due process, the House of Representatives Committee on Culture and Tourism yesterday, summoned the Artistic Director, Tar Ukoh to explain why he took such an action.
The summon followed the absence of the Director, who failed to honour the invitation by the lawmakers. The four directors in their petition had alleged that the Artistic Director locked them out of their offices for over six by months.
They had alleged that each time they tried to gain entry into their offices in the National Theatre, they were chased away by thugs. The Committee members, who were peeved by the absence of the director, appealed to the four directors, who petitioned the lawmakers that they should wait to hear his side of the issue.
They further said that the director should be given a fair hearing, as it will not be good to draw conclusion based on the submission of the four directors.
In his ruling before adjourning the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, said, “the Artistic Director is not around and let us give him the benefit of the doubt and let us write him another letter and probably give him another one week.”
