Official hails officiating, in spite of Sunshine Stars’ loss to Niger Tornadoes

Niger Tornadoes Football Club of Minna on Sunday beat visiting Sunshine Stars FC of Akure 1-0 in a 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 14 fixture.

Newsmen report that Austin Igenepo scored the match’s lone goal five minutes into the game after utilising a pass in the visting side’s penalty area.

Speaking later, Tunde Ogunja, the Director of Sports at Ondo State Sports Commission, told newsmen that in spite of the loss the visiting eam’s delegation was happy.

“In spite of the fact that we lost the match, we consider the officiating to be fine. Football officiating is improving, unlike what it used to be.

“If we continue to get this kind of officiating outside our home ground, our team Sunshine Stars will get to the top. So, I give kudos to the referee,’’ he said.

Also speaking, coach Henry Abiodun, the Sunshine Stars’ coach, hailed his players for improving in their performance, adding that there was still room for more improvement.

Coach Hamza Abara of Niger Tornadoes, on his part, was happy that his boys played according to instructions.

But he added that the game has exposed some lapses in his team that needed improvement.

“We will still work on the players to enable them improve,’’ the coach said.
