Nigerian-born, London-based juju musician, Rafiu Temitayo Fadoju, better known as ‘Tayo Mix’, may not boast of King Sunny Ade or Evangelist Ebenezer Obey’s pedigree as a juju music musician, but he knows his salt as a fast growing juju musician in diaspora.

King Sunny Ade

Confident of his knowledge about juju music, Tayo Mix who has been doing Juju music in London for  five years minced no words as he declared in an exclusive  chat with Showtime that juju music maestros, King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, or any other juju musician are not fetish or belong to any form of secret cult.

“King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey and other juju musicians are not fetish or belong to any secret cult. King Sunny Ade’s success at juju music is not because he’s diabolical, belongs to any secret cult or fetish group. He has been doing juju music for ages now. We all know that as the godfather of all juju musicians, he is good at what he is doing. When you have been doing something for a long time and you don’t stop it, you become a professional at it”, he said with confidence.

Speaking further, he corrected the popular misconception that juju music is diabolical or fetish.

He said, “Juju music is not about being in a caucus or belonging to a secret cult. It is just that when your music is good and very popular, people will want to know you more. By so doing, some might think that you are in a caucus or in a secret cult. The truth is when you do good music some people will become your fans and some will think negatively of your fame and success.”

He added that unlike fuji music, juju music discourages thuggery, violence and other vices socially unacceptable.

“Juju music is cool to listen to. It is a kind of music that will make you remember who we really are as a people. Juju music discourages thuggery, violence, hooliganism and other social vices that are unacceptable in the society. Juju music is made for people who understand how life should be. It is made for people to remember where they are going in life or where they are going to be. It is not for thugs or violent people who have no future to protect”, he concluded.
