BIRNIN KEBBI—FOLLOWING the rise in drug abuse by youths, wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr Zainab Bagudu, has embarked on an awareness campaign to reduce the menace in the state.
Speaking during the campaign’s flag off at Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic in Birnin Kebbi, Dr. Zainab Bagudu said she, with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Northern Governors’ Wives’ Forum, deemed it necessary to sensitise people, particularly youths, against illicit drugs because “we observed that the spate of drug abuse in tertiary institutions is increasing daily.
“We have no option than to take our campaign everywhere: higher institutions, motor parks and markets in Kebbi State, so that the menace can reduce.”
She met with the wives of local government chairmen, who she urged to take the message to households in their respective areas.
While declaring the campaign open, Governor Abubakar Bagudu assured the forum of government’s intention to tackle the menace of drugs abuse, noting that the state will embark on more vigorous campaigns.
