Indelible footprints of ‘Gabriel Onyenwife’ in the Green chamber

Gabriel Onyenwife  (Owelle Umumbo) is a man of humble beginning that came from obscure, rustic and agrarian town of Umumbo in the present day Ayamelum Local Government Council of Anambra State. He came to political limelight in 2007 when he won an election to Anambra State House of Assembly under the umbrella of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

He was re-elected to the same house in 2011. In 2015, he joined the All Progressives  Grand Alliance(APGA) and  was prevailed upon to run for Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency seat.  He contested and won, through the divine intervention of God. He thus became the first APGA  party member  to go to the green chambers.

Hon Gabriel Onyenwife has remained effective and impactful in his representations and legislative duties right from his days at the ASHA. He was vocal and articulate at the state house of Assembly. When he was at the House of Assembly, he was for a long time, the chairman of all important House Committee on Public Accounts. His brilliance and clear understanding of legislative functions fetched  him the election of National Secretary Nigeria Association of Public Accounts Committee(NAPAC) from  2012 till date.

He was a bridge builder between the executive and house while in the State House of Assembly. Virtually every knotty issue, involving the House and executive was resolved by him.

In the green chambers he was great and outspoken, seen as a golden fish. Among other things, he is Chairman House Committee on Reform of Government Institutions (Chairman of a committee from a minority party in the minorities) He is also a member of the following committees in the House: FCT, judiciary, water resources, police Affairs and public Accounts.  Above all he is the Chief Reviewer of Procurement Records of the federation.

He has attracted many project/empowered many of his constituents in  Oyi/Ayamelum. He recently moved a motion for the rehabilitation of the near comatose Lower Anambra Irrigation Project(LAIP),OMOR,a rice irrigation project, the rehabilitation cost was valued for over #400,000,000.(four hundred million naira).

The motion for the rehabilitation was sponsored by him. He attracted electricity to Umumbo town( first of its kind). The 2nd electricity project he attracted to Omasi Uno will soon take off. Free medical programmes have been carried out in all the wards in Umumbo,OMOR,Ifite Ogwari. Employment opportunities have also being provided.

Hundreds of Ndi Oyi/Ayamelum, have been empowered through provision of varied items ranging from sewing machines,tricycles,Granding machines,motorcycles(keke) garrison processing machines etc.

Every town in Oyi has benefited with one project or the other. Motorized boreholes have site at NTEJE,AWKUZU, OGBUNIKE, & UMUNYA. Transformers were attracted to AWKUZU and NKWELLE EZUNAKA. Many has been done. Many will still be done.
