UNITED Progressive Party ,UPP, yesterday, berated the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo, Senator Hope Uzodinma and other Igbo leaders, who have said that Igbos should only work towards the presidency in 2023 and not in 2019.
The party accused other political parties of zoning out qualified persons from the South-East geopolitical zone from contesting for the top job on any political party platform of their choice.
A statement from the party’s, National Organizing Secretary, Pst. Benji Duru, said: “At the moment, the only political parties in Nigeria that have governors to their credit ) have each zoned the position of presidential candidate to the North of Nigeria. By their calculation which the parties are entitled to, they have deliberately thrown healthy competition away into the bush.
“It is better to pick and vote for a presidential candidate from a pool of capable, qualified, young and sound men and women who may emerge as presidential candidates from any part of the country through registered political parties.”
