Indigenes of Trofani community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have debunked report of amicable resolution of a seven-year land dispute between the community and Ikpidriama in Isoko South and Ndokwa East Local Government areas of Delta State.
Hostilities over land disputes between Onyah/Ikpide-Irri on the one hand and Trofani/Ikpide-Irri on the other, was triggered by the discovery of oil in the communities’ boundaries and construction of a five-kilometre road awarded by Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
The highest administrative body of Troffani community, Trofani Development Union, TDU, in a statement by the President General and Secretary-General, Chief Harry Torry and Engr. Benafegha Tonkumoh, respectively, said the community has a legally-recognised constitution as the Prime Minister /traditional council have no authority to negotiate land matters on behalf of the community.
