Apprentice bags 6 months imprisonment for stealing phone

Lagos – An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 19-year-old apprentice, Fatai Kilani, to six months imprisonment for stealing an iPhone 7, valued at N500,000.

The Magistrate, Mr A. O. Komolafe, sentenced Kilani after he pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing.

Komolafe ruled that the accused should spend the next six months in kirikiri Prisons without an option of fine.

“This will serve as deterrent to others intending to commit such crime, “he said.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor Innocent Odugbo told court that the accused committed the offence on March 8 at 9.00 p.m. along Fagba Bus Stop in Iju, near Lagos.

Odugbo said the accused snatched the phone from one Abibat Banjo while she was in traffic.

“She immediately raised alarm and the accused was apprehended,’’ the prosecutor said.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
