Four persons reportedly died, while 16 others sustained severe injuries, yesterday, on Lekki/Epe Expressway, Lagos, in an accident involving a Lexus SUV and a commercial bus.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 6.30a.m. at First Gate inward Oriental Hotel, when the Lexus GX470, with number plates KJA-615DF, which was driving against the traffic, allegedly ran into the stationary commercial bus, with number plate, KRE-302XA, immediately leaving four people dead, while 16 others were injured and hospitalised.
It was learned that the bus was just cleared by the ticketing officers at the toll gate before the fatal incident.
The casualties were said to be three male adults and a female adult, while the injured were four female adults and 12 male adults, including the car driver.
The incident, which disrupted traffic in the area was managed by traffic officials including Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Response Team; Lagos State Ambulance Services, LASAMBUS; Rapid Response Squad, RRS; the Police; State Environmental Monitoring Unit, SEHMU, and other responders.
Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, General Manager of LASEMA, said the vehicles were taken off the road with the aid of the agency’s light tow truck and subsequently handed over to LCC officials, who moved them to Maroko Police Station.
Tiamiyu advised motorists to drive with caution, abstain from drinking alcohol and ensure road worthiness of vehicles, to avoid unnecessary loss of lives
He, however, said that this particular incident will be investigated by security operatives while the State Government will also ensures prosecution of the culprit to serve as a deterrent to other motorists.
