PORT HARCOURT—The Ogoni ethnic nationality at their General Assembly, has warned RoboMichael Nigerian Limited, Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC and Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, NPDC, to steer clear the Oil Mining Lease, OML11, adding that the call was in the interest of peace.
The assembly which was convened weekend in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, by Ken Saro-Wiwa Associates, KSWA, also noted that Ogoni stakeholders were not opposed to the resumption of oil exploration in the area.
In a communique by Teeh Kabari, Chairman, Communique Drafting Committee and adopted at the meeting, the assembly urged the Federal Government not to renew the licence it issued SPDC to operate OML11, adding that Shell must accept and apologise to Ogoni people for their complicity in human rights violation in the area.
The communique read in part: “The Ogoni people are not opposed to oil production in Ogoniland but RoboMichael Nigerian Limited, NPDC, SPDC, should steer clear of Ogoni land in the interest of peace.”
