ABUJA—THE House of Representatives, yesterday, summoned Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, to explain alleged manipulation of Code of Conduct Tribunal case involving Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki.

In a move apparently designed to save the legal system in Nigeria, the House, via a motion promoted by Minority Whip, Yakubu Barde (PDP, Kaduna), entitled: ”Need to ensure sanity in the administration of justice system in the fight against corruption in Nigeria by the AGF,” was overwhelmingly carried by the lawmakers.

To this end, the House mandated the Committee on Judiciary to interact with the AGF to ensure that sanity was restored to the case at hand.

Barde, who led the debate, observed that the AGF was instrumental to the unwholesome saga playing out in the administration of justice system.

The Kaduna lawmaker explained:  “The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, EFCC and CCT are indispensable in the fight against corruption in Nigeria today.”

Barde told his colleagues that the same EFCC and AGF had previously cleared Danladi Umar of the same allegations that formed the basis of the two counts.

“The House should also recall that this same EFCC and AGF are equally prosecuting cases before the same CCT, which Danladi Umar sits as chairman,” he said.
