ENUGU—TWO top officials of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, have been suspended for allegedly embezzling examination fees paid by the 2016 set of nursing students of the school, the Medical Director of the School, Dr. Jojo Onukwe, has said.

The suspension followed complaints by 31 former students of the institution over the withholding of their original certificates and non-registration by the Nurses Registration Council following the inability of the school management to remit their school fees in full since 2016.

The Class Representatives of the set of 2015/2016 students, including Tobechukwu Uzodinma, Ikechukwu Mbom and Kpesarachi Udeani, had complained on behalf of their colleagues on January 17, this year, claiming that 31 of them paid N8,875 each,  for the registration and licencing, having written the final or qualifying examinations but regretted that the money was not remitted to the Nursing Council by the hospital management in full, leading to their predicament.

However, in a letter addressed to the Minister of State for Health and signed by Dr. Onwukwe on the issue, the management of the hospital, said that the two officials, (names withheld), were suspended to ensure a thorough investigation of the matter.
