ABUJA—FORMER Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Atahiru Jega, yesterday at the 40th anniversary of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Abuja, said the immediate past governor of Edo State, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, has proved that labour leaders can be trusted when they are bestowed with the opportunity of governance.
Commending Oshiomhole for joining politics after heading the NLC for eight years, Prof. Jega stressed the need for labour leaders to be involved in the governance of the nation so as to ensure welfare for its members and also influence the enthronement of political leaders who are capable of finding solutions to the problems affecting the masses.
Jega stated this when he delivered a lecture entitled Labour, Politics and Governance, at the 40th anniversary of the NLC.
He said, “We are proud with the kind of boldness and courage that Oshiomhole possessed that made him delve into politics. He contested under a political party and won as governor of Edo State and his laudable performance in office has shown that labour leaders are capable. And honestly, we are proud of Oshiomhole.”
