Obasanjo’s letter, clarion call to Buhari —Bishop Azogu

By Emmanuel Elebeke

ABUJA—The General Overseer, Our  Sanctuary Gospel Church,  Bishop Udo Azogu, has cautioned Nigerians against vilifying former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his controversial letter to President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest the 2019 Presidential election.

Buhari and Obasanjo

Bishop Azogu, who was reacting to the letter, said, rather than vilify Obasanjo, Nigerians should see the letter as a clarion call to President Buhari to wake up from his slumber and correct his mistakes.

He said while some Nigerians believe that Obasanjo lacks the moral ground to write such letter because of his antecedents, it takes the courage of one man to keep the Buhari-led administration on its toes and therefore, should be celebrated.

‘‘While some Nigerians believe that Obasanjo lacks the moral ground to write such a letter because of his antecedents others feel that the letter underscores mounting public misgivings for a man that enjoyed great munificence of the plurality of expectant Nigerian electorate in ascending to political power.

‘‘It takes the voice of one man to bring the impregnable Nigerian seat of power on its toes and that man should be celebrated and not vilified,’’ he added.

Recall that there has been a barrage of reactions that greeted the recent call by former President Obasanjo on President Buhari not to contest the 2019 Presidential election because of perceived shortfalls in governance. This has jolted the polity and deepened ethnic and inter party bias.
