Former Governor of Borno State and former National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Modu Sheriff, survived a mob action, weekend, at the American University of Nigeria, AUN, in Yola, Adamawa State.
Sources told Vanguard that the former governor had gone to inspect some facilities within the campus when the incident occurred.
According to the sources, when the former governor was spotted at the entrance of the university’s e-library complex, news went round alleging that he was the man behind the Boko Haram.
A crowd, according to the sources, formed around the former governor.
One of the sources said: “As the crowd booed him, some people started shouting Boko Haram! Boko Haram! Sensing trouble, the ex-Chairman of PDP was quickly whisked away.
“Modu Sheriff and his entourage were relocated to the Presidential Lounge in Government House from the university’s hotel.”
Contacted on phone, the Assistant President in charge of Communication of the university, Professor Abba Tahir, denied the incident.
Tahir confirmed that Sheriff visited the school, but that nothing unusual happened to him in the course of the visit.
