Royal Excel Mouscron came into yesterday’s Belgian First Division A tie at Anderlecht knowing they had to get a result to improve their chances of avoiding relegation.
But after an hour at the Stade Constant Vanden Stock (Bruxelles), it was thought the game had already ended as a contest with the visitors trailing 4-0 thanks to Morioka’s 26th minute goal and Teodorczyk’s hat-trick.
Taiwo Awoniyi, making his 23rd start in the Belgian top-flight, showed his importance again when he reduced the deficit in the 70th minute.
Van Durmen made it 4-2 on 72 minutes before Mézague scored with six minutes left on the clock to set up a nervy ending to the encounter, but Anderlecht could not be stopped as Morioka scored in the second minute of stoppage time after a costly error by goalkeeper Logan Bailly.
Awoniyi was linked with a transfer to Anderlecht in a permanent deal before he joined Liverpool in the summer of 2015.
