ENUGU—Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s 2019 election posters have flooded most parts of Enugu metropolis.
The posters sponsored by a solidarity group, Mbakwe Gburugburu for Continuity 2019, indicated that there was no vacancy for any other candidate for the Enugu top job.
The streets where the campaign posters appeared included: Bisalla Road leading to Government House, Ogui Road, Presidential Road and most parts of Independence Layout.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, while appreciating the governor’s supporters for their solidarity, however urged the group to channel its energy to mobilising residents towards massive voter registration which PDP said is more important for now.
In its reaction to the conspicuous posters, the state chairman of PDP, Hon. Augustine Nnamani said “the party appreciates the goodwill and solidarity of the group and other related associations, but wishes to state that what is ultimate in its agenda at the moment is total mobilization of eligible voters in the state to register with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the forthcoming general elections.”
PDP in the state therefore appealled to the groups to channel their efforts towards the Voters’ Registration Exercise, which it said would ensure the actualization of the party’s ultimate goal in 2019.
Prior to the appearance of the posters, different support groups have been urging Governor Ugwuanyi to run for a second term, citing evidences of his administration’s good governance since 2015.
One of such support groups, Governor Ugwuanyi Progressive Movement, GUPM, led by Princess Edith Ugwuanyi, said there was every reason for the governor to go for a second term in office to continue the good works he is doing in the state.
Princess Ugwuanyi however said that her group’s preoccupation for now was to mobilise the residents to obtain their Permanent Voters Card, PVCs, before the proper campaign.
