Lagos – The Police on Tuesday arraigned a 37-year-old man, Nnamdi Okpeh, in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly failing to produce two suspects he stood surety for in a case of conspiracy and stealing.
Judicial symbol for justice
Okpeh, of Olumore Street, Oshodi, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of obstruction and preventing course of justice for not producing Grace Igwe, who is his sister, and Ada Joseph.
The prosecutor told the court that the offence was committed on Nov. 8, 2016, at the Divisional Crime Branch, Ogudu Police Station.
Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie alleged that Okpeh undertook to produce the suspects at the Ogudu Police Station on Nov. 11, 2016, pending the determination of the case against them or forfeit the sum of N1 million.
Ihiehie alleged that Okpeh instead obstructed the course of justice by aiding the escape of the suspects.
The offences contravened Section 132 of the Administration of Criminal Law, 2016, and Section 97 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Okpeh however pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties whose addresses must be verified by the court.
She adjourned the case until Feb. 28. (NAN)
