WARRI—The National Association of Itsekiri Graduates (NAIG) has called on the Management of Chevron Nigeria Limited to halt the current employment of plant Operators or face operations shut down, noting that the Host communities were not informed nor given the opportunity to participate in the recruitment process which is contrary to the GMOU, and the Local Community Content Guideline of Chevron.
NAIG, in a statement signed by its president Comrade Edema Collins Oritsetimeyin, said over 50 operators were interviewed by Chevron in November 6, 2017 at Oakwood Hotel Lekki, and sucessful applicants has done their Medical with Chevron awaiting their resumption.
“The Itsekiri Nation play host to 70% of Chevron Operations in Nigeira and as such deserve employment based on our production quantum.
“Chevron has conducted OPITO training program for over 10 years for our graduates without an OPITO Certificate given.
“The last set of trainees has been under slave labour since March 2013 without their employment being regularised.
“We will not accept any training contract renewal or casual labour contract for our VTP5/OTP2, and VTP6 Trainees”
