Shun PTAD verification exercise, ATEN tells members

By Gabriel Enogholase

BENIN—ASSOCIATION of former Telecomms Employees of Nigeria, ATEN, has directed its members, mostly made up of former workers of Nigerian Telecommunication Limited, NITEL and its mobile arm, the Mobile Telecommunication Limited, Mtel, not to participate in the proposed verification exercise by Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD, insisting that the move contravenes the 20 years pension buy-out awarded to them by the court in 2014, when the companies were liquidated.

ATEN advised the ex-telecom workers not to participate in the verification exercise as it would place them on monthly pension as against the 20 years pension buy out awarded by the court in 2014.

President (ATEN), Mr. Oluti Gabriel, in a statement yesterday in Benin City, Edo State, condemned the Federal Government’s position subjecting  his  members to oblige the use of PTAD in their payment as against the 20 years pension buy out awarded by the court in 2014 in their favour.

He said that directive was a collective one as members of the association were waiting for the outcome of ECOWAS Court judgment on the order of mandamus it sought against the Federal Government and its agencies particularly, the PTAD.
