Vanguard recalls that irate youths had last Saturday razed cars and destroyed property in that area of the town following a minor disagreement among themselves.

The development prompted the deployment of security personnel to the area to ensure the safety of lives and property and a warning by the state government to apprehend anyone caught fueling the crisis.

Governor Samuel Ortom and members of the State Executive Council also undertook an on the spot tour of the affected area to reassure residents of their safety.

However, despite the presence of armed security operatives in the area, some selected youths late Sunday night, reportedly made attempts to mobilise themselves in order to further their action but were dispersed by the Police who fired tear gas canisters at the gathering.

A resident of the area told Vanguard on phone that the quick intervention of the Police saved the area from another round of mayhem.

“Some of the youths actually started gathering again this night to continue with the riot, but the Police got wind of it and dispersed them before they start another round of crisis.

“As I speak with you everywhere is calm and security personnel are patrolling the entire Wadata.” He said.

When contacted, the Police spokesman, Assistant Superintendent, ASP, Moses Yamu said there was no cause for alarm assuring the area had been secured by the combined team of security operatives who were drafted to maintain the peace and forestall further crisis in the area.
