PORT HAR-COURT— Rivers State House of Assembly, yesterday, passed the N510 billion 2018 appropriation bill presented by Governor Nyesom Wike, saying that the bill is a balanced budget as it addressed all sectors of the state.
The House also approved a request from Governor Wike to sack six officials of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, for alleged partisanship.
The affected persons include Dr Chimaroke Mba, Mr. Kombo Johnson, Mr. Ugbana Martins, Dr Robinson Olulu, Dr Juliet Berewari and Chief Kingsley Obudibo.
The budget proposal was approved following the lawmakers’ consideration of the report of the Appropriation Committee on the bill which pegged it at N510 billion.
The member representing Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Constituency, Christian Ahiaknwo, on behalf of the Chairman, Ikunyi Owaji-Ibani, presented the report of the Appropriation Committee during plenary, yesterday.
Ahiaknwo noted that the committee recommended that the budget be passed as presented by the governor, adding that it captured the programme of the government for the fiscal year.
Speaking after the House was convened into Committee of the Whole, the Chairman, Owaji-Ibani, said all the standing committees agreed that the estimate for the 2018 budget be approved as proposed.
