Nigerians suffering due to leaders bereft of ideas — Sen Igbeke

By Chimaobi Nwaiwu

NNEWI—SENATOR Alphonsus Igbeke who twice represented Anambra North Senatorial in the Senate has said that Nigerians are suffering due to lack of ideas from the leadership of the country.

Senator Igbeke said there was no reason for Nigerians to experience economic hardships, such as they are going through now, if the country had not solely relied on oil economy, with the states going into deficit.

Speaking with Vanguard in an interview in his Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igbeke  said states should not be on deficit, especially in Nigeria where we have a lot of mineral resources that have not been tapped while the people suffer untold hardship.

“It is unfortunate that leaders of today lack ideas on how to generate money to run the country. In the states, people come in as governors without knowledge on how to generate money from their states. They only rely on funds coming from the Federal Government, when it is possible in other climes and even in Nigeria for one to run a state without the money coming from the Federal Government. I can do that, I can assure you that it is not an exaggeration.

Senator Igbeke said that he is planning to retire from active politics for the younger generation to take over from him, while he focuses on sustaining his achievements in business and politics.

According to Senator Igbeke, “today I am one of the richest men on earth, being a contented man that has made his mark in business and political world; I need to leave the scene for the younger ones including my children to make their mark.”
