LG polls: Why Oredo people want Obaseki as chairman

By Elizabeth Uwandu

BENIN CITY—COALITION of All Progressives Congress (APC) youths in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo state, has admonished party leaders in the council to consider party loyalty and pedigree and throw their weight behind the aspiration of Dr Tom Obaseki as chairmanship candidate of the party in the forthcoming March 3, 2018 Local Government election.

The youths in a statement signed by Osaze Paul, recalled that ¨Ín 2010, Mr Tom Obaseki was backed by majority of the leaders in the council to be the chairman of Oredo, but due to the effort by the leaders of the party to balance the political tripod in the council then, the leaders including former Governor Adams Oshiomhole persuaded Tom to step down for Osaro Obaze.

”He decided to obey party instruction and worked for the party unlike others who went against the party. That is why we are appealing that party members should be encouraged and rewarded for their loyalty to the party. Apart from that, Tom has the requisite credentials to change the economic fortune of Oredo Local government to the better.

”And we appreciate the party leaders in the state for ensuring that competent people, people with the qualification lead our Local Government Areas this time around because we believe it will help to the growth of the councils and will help to sustain the reforms which governor Godwin Obaseki has started at that level.

”This is the more reason why Oredo people want Tom Obaseki as chairman. Tom has been in politics before his brother became governor of Edo State and that must be considered. He is qualified to do the job and we appeal that people should not on the sentiment that his brother is governor and deprive the people of Oredo credible leadership in our council,” it stated.
