LOKOJA— Wife of Kogi State governor, Mrs Rashidat Bello, has called on political, traditional and religious leaders in the North to take urgent actions to tackle the menace of drug abuse among youths.

Mrs Bello, who stated this in Lokoja during the quarterly meeting of Northern Governors’ Wives Forum, said the rate of drug abuse in some of the northern states in recent times as indicated by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, calls for concern.

She appealed to all concerned stakeholders in the region to join hands in awareness campaigns on the dangers of drug abuse.

Mrs Bello said that she had been sensitising people of the state, especially youths and women, on the dangers of drug abuse through her pet project, Kogi Women and Youth Advancement Foundation, KOWYAF.

Also speaking, Governor Yahaya Bello urged women to give more attention to the proper upbringing of their children to ensure a better society.

Yahaya Bello said women play significant role in addressing the menace of drug abuse and other vices among youths.

He urged the governors’ wives to serve as role models to other women in their respective states through virtuous lifestyle.

The governor latter commissioned the Rehab Centre in Lokoja, built with the support of Northern Governors Forum.
