Are Feyisetan, National Coach, Nigeria Para-Powerlifting Federation (NPPF), on Monday confirmed that training has commenced in earnest in the newly renovated power gymnasium located in the National Stadium, Lagos.
Feyisetan told the Newsmen in Lagos that the athletes who usually trained in the open space had now relocated to the world class gymnasium.
“The gym was officially opened on the 19th of this January, but we only had access to it last week because the key was mistakenly misplaced after the ceremony.
“We started training in the gym on Friday and it’s been a wonderful experience, training in a standard environment where we have everything at our beck and call.
“My athletes are just too excited, many of them arrived here before me this morning and they carry out instructions on our programmes with ease, it’s been our desire for long.
“Everywhere is tiled, there is accessible walk way, weights, babbles’, platform, ceiling fans, lockers and most importantly toilets and baths with water, including an electricity generator,’’ he said.
Feyisetn said training usually holds on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and only morning sessions were being observed henceforth, to avoid overburdening the athletes and to enable them have adequate time to rest.
He told Newsmen that the training schedule became necessary as preparations for Commonwealth Games was in top gear, adding that they needed to retain their number one world record.
“Our training has increased from three times weekly to four, because of Commonwealth Games, but even at that, the athletes need time to rest and relax their muscles after training schedules.
“We are aware that thousands of our fans even in the diaspora are believing in us to show the world that we are unbeatable and we must do everything to live up to expectations.
“We attained the number one position in the world under the usage of obsolete equipment, so, now that Peak Milk has empowered us, we must defend our global title, no story,’’ he said.
He added that athletes had been thoroughly advised to apply total maintenance culture in the usage of the facility, especially the convenience which were also installed with necessary applications.
The gymnasium was renovated and equipped with world class facility by Friesland Campina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, makers of Peak Milk with the approval of Solomon Dalung-led administration of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
