Farmer, 40, arraigned over alleged machete attack on man

Okitipupa (Ondo State) – For allegedly causing bodily harm to a man on the farm, 40-year-old farmer, Gbenga Ajayi, was on Thursday brought before an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State.

The farmer was, however, released on bail in the sum of N30, 000.

Magistrate Chris Ojuola, who gave the ruling, also gave the accused a surety in like sum.

He said the surety must show evidence of tax payment to the Ondo State Government as part of the bail conditions.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a charge of assault to which he pleaded not guilty.

Police Prosecutor Ayodeji Omoyeigha had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 23, 2017 at 12.30 p.m. on a farmland along Okitipupa-Irele Road.

He alleged that Ajayi, who was armed with a machete, inflicted various degrees of injury on the complainant, Akintunde Jegun, following a disagreement.

The complainant was injured on his left leg and other parts of the body, he said.

The offence contravened Section 351 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

Further hearing has been adjourned until Jan. 24. (NAN)
