Lagos—On Air Personality, OAP, who is also Aare Mayegun of Ogereland in Ogun State, Mr. Jare Martins, has been ordered by a Lagos State High Court sitting at Igbosere, to take responsibility for his 15-year-old daughter, who was born outside wedlock.

He was also ordered to pay N3.1 million to the mother of the child.

Justice Morenikeji Obadina gave the verdict while delivering judgement in a suit filed by the mother of the child, Miss Adenike Adeniyi.

The court also directed the respondent to be responsible for and to refund all monies that the applicant had expended on the school materials/fees of the girl to her since 2006.

Another order directed the respondent to be responsible for the girl’s education from henceforth in accordance with the child’s desire and capacity.

A further order mandated the respondent to, henceforth, pay to the applicant N150,000 every month, being the cost of accommodation, healthcare, feeding, upkeep, general maintenance and welfare of the child until she graduates from the university and starts working.

Adeniyi’s statement of claim said she had a relationship with Martins in 2001, which resulted in pregnancy and birth of the child.

She said the respondent had promised to marry her if she got pregnant. Adding that in the fifth month of the pregnancy, the respondent, who had initially accepted being responsible for the pregnancy, came back and demanded that she go for an abortion, which she refused.

Her words: “When I gave birth to the child, my family went to inform the respondent’s family, but his family vowed not to have anything to do with the child.”

When the court interacted with the child on May 22, 2017, she said she met her father only once— when she was 12 years old.
