Convener, Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to heed the advice given to him by former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, by refraining to contest the 2019 presidential election in the interest of many Nigerians.
Mr. Adeyanju gave the advice in a statement on Wednesday.
Mr. Adeyanju who hailed Chief Obasanjo for, according to him, “speaking the truth at a time when the Nigerian people are bearing the negative effects of the Buhari administration” however added that anything short of the President refraining from contesting the 2019 presidential election “will lead to the Nigerian people delivering a withering and embarrassing defeat to the President Buhari next year.”
The statement partly reads thus:
“We have read the statement written by former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, where he gave a withering assessment of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari with more than a sense of palpable relief that there are elders of this country who are willing to speak truth to power.
“In his statement, Chief Obasanjo stated the many obvious failings of the Buhari administration and their negative effects on all aspects of the Nigerian economy. We commend Chief Obasanjo for speaking the truth at a time when the Nigerian people are bearing the negative effects of the Buhari administration.
“We call on President Buhari to heed the advice given by Chief Obasanjo and refrain from contesting the 2019 presidential elections. This is the only way President Buhari can display any sort of love for a country that is creaking under the weight of his misrule.
“ Anything short of this will lead to the Nigerian people delivering a withering and embarrassing defeat to the President Buhari next year.
“A word is enough for the wise.”
