2019: Imo Labour Party didn’t sell guber ticket—Chairman

By Chinonso Alozie

OWERRI—THE Imo State chairman of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Cyril Akujiobi, yesterday, dispelled the rumour that the gubernatorial ticket of the party, has been allegedly sold to one of the aspirants, Mr. Ikechukwu Ukegbu.

Speaking to Vanguard, in Owerri, the chairman described the rumour as the work of mischievous politicians who were planning to destabilise the success of Labour Party to produce the governor of Imo State in 2019.

“It is a blatant lie. We have many aspirants who have declared to run for the governorship position under Labour Party. It is not as if  it  is just one person. We want the general public to disregard this rumour. There is peace in the party,” Akujiobi said.

Investigation carried out by Vanguard, revealed that the rumour started when Mr. Tony Onyearugbulem, declared under the Labour Party to contest for the governorship position.

A source, told Vanguard that Ukegbu and Onyearugbulem are from Ikeduru Local Government Area, an arrangement Ukegbu was said to have jeopardised his chances of winning the ticket of the party during the primaries.

As a result of this trend, there have been squables in the party and unnecessary show of strength in the last one week.
