PORT HAR-COURT:— The senator representing Rivers South-East senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, has said that the constitution of All Progressives Congress, APC, will be followed in the primary election of candidates for the 2019 elections in the state.
Abe, who spoke in Port Harcourt, in reaction to a statement credited to Minister of Transportation, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, said the Minister will not impose candidate on the party, adding that the APC constitution does not permit the imposition of candidates for elections.
Abe noted that Amaechi only restated the position of the party’s constitution on the conduct of primaries to nominate candidates for the elections.
He said: “The constitution of the party does not allow for the imposition of candidates. I think he was only restating what we already know. The constitution of the party will be followed in the decision and affairs of the party.”
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, explained that the ultimate target of every APC member in the state was to see a united party that will wrest power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2019.
