UMUAHIA—MEMBERS of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia South Senatorial District, the constituency of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, have endorsed Ikpeazu to contest again in 2019 and banned any of their sons and daughters from running as deputy to candidates of other political parties.
Rising from a meeting held in Obingwa Council, the party claimed that Governor Ikpeazu has done well in the past three years that “there is no need shopping for a replacement”.
They called on Ukwa Ngwa sons nursing the ambition of contesting against Governor Ikpeazu to jettison the idea.
But a prominent Ukwa politician from the party has dismissed the position of the party, saying that it would only work “if Ikpeazu stops marginalizing our people and starts treating us as serious stakeholders in the Ukwa/Ngwa project and no longer as a use-and –dump people”.
The motion to endorse Ikpeazu to contest for second tenure was moved by Dr. Solomon Ogunji, a national ex-officio member of the party and his motion was supported by representatives of the six council areas that make the senatorial constituency.
Responding, Governor Ikpeazu thanked them for acknowledging the modest achievements of his administration, despite two years of distraction, saying that nobody had contested governorship seat and stayed in court for two years, except him.
He however noted that in spite of the long legal battle he went through, his administration was able to achieve much in less than three years, especially in the area of road construction.
He also pointed out that the effort of his administration has changed the narrative of the Aba shoemakers as their products are now being recognized beyond the shores of African sub region.
